In this lesson, you will learn about the history of potions in general and also about some of the more well known potion makers.
The exact date of when potion first began is unknown but this subject can be trace as far back as 10th century BC. When magic it self was integrated into society. The first potion made was healing potion called the Sleeping Draught. It was created by a young Egyptian wizard, who couldn't get his daughter to sleep because she continued to have horrible nightmares of giant beetles. I shall go into further detail about this in class. (OOC: Note most of this comes from own mind.)
Salazar Slytherin - I believe Slytherin to be one of first Potions Masters of Hogwarts for my own reasone. He was born in Fen, which is marshland filled with water creatures; like toads and snakes. Since, most potions call for some type of part snake or toad, to be add to it. Not only that, but Slytherin Drom is near the dungeons were the potions class is taught. Also, most potion masters who have worked at hogwarts have come from the house of the snake.
Glover Hipworth (B. 1742 - D. 1805) - Inventor of the Pepperup Potion, which cures common colds.
Nicolas Flamel - Is one of most famous of potion makers because he is the only known maker of the Elixir of life. Which must be done by using the Sorcerer's Stone, since that is were it's derived from.
Horace Slughorn - One of the more famous Potion Masters of Hogwarts; It was no wonder that he became a Potions Professor because from the day he stepped foot in Hogwarts; Horace exceed at almost every potion he brewed without much of a challenge. A bit of fun fact about him is: He knew how to pick certain students out, that had potential for greatness.
Sacharissa Tugwood (B. 1874 - D. 1966) - A witch who invented some of the earliest Beautifying Potions and discovered the pimple-curing properties of Bubotuber Pus.
Damocles Belby - A wizard who invented the Wolfsbane Potions. Effects of said Potion: While this potion doesn't cure lycanthropy, it does prevent the extremely dangerous dementia which would otherwise accompany the transformation from human into werewolf.
Severus Snape - Another one of the more famous Potion Masters of Hogwarts. I shall go into further detail about this Potion Master in Class.
